Photographer Bradford Gregory recently turned his camera away from the fashion world and started snapping pictures of the Occupy Wall Street protests. Taking powerful black and white photos, Gregory captures the action behind these now famous scenes saying that the "young people on Wall Street are giving voice to many of the problems that working people in America have been confronting over the last several years."

Beth Coleman presents some of her recent research on the protests in Tahrir square, and a broader theory of how social networks and activism in the physical world work together today at the Berkman Center. With her is Mike Ananny, her coauthor and researcher in danah boyd’s lab at Microsoft Research. The presentation, “Tweeting the Revolution”, tries to understand how we read large data sets to understand located action. This is a timely topic because we’re seeing a rise in protest activity that’s been missing from the public sphere for a few decades. Last week we published an analysis on the usage of hashtags around the #OccupyWallStreet movement on Twitter, why some phrases reach Twitter’s trending topics list, while others never do. The crux of the the argument highlighted the outcomes of a purely algorithmic mechanism that Twitter uses to generate its trending topics lists. L’outil logiciel non-commercial Voodoo Camera Tracker est un projet mené depuis plus de 8 ans par Digilab au sein du laboratoire pour les technologies de l’information de l’université de Hanovre. Il permet d’ajuster les paramètres d’une caméra virtuelle sur ceux d’une caméra réelle, l’objectif étant la création d’une scène qui donne l’illusion d’un objet virtuel filmé en même tant que les images réelles.
